Carpool Information

What is Carpool?
UCSB Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) defines a carpool as two or more UCSB employees/students commuting together and sharing ONE Faculty/Staff/Student Carpool campus permit. Carpools are an ideal cost saving arrangement, particularly for those individuals who commute long distances to and from work each day, have limited access to public transit or few transportation options available to them.

TAP Carpool Program Benefits

Carpool Matching
Carpool matching services can be of assistance to those who want to form or expand a carpool. TAP provides a carpool matching service at www.carpoolworld.com/ucsb.html. Traffic Solutions, a division of Santa Barbara County Association of Government (SBCAG), also offers a carpool matching service on their web site at matchlist.trafficsolutions.info

Sample Carpool Logistical Arrangements
The basic types of carpools are the Designated Driver Carpool and the Alternating Carpool.
  • In the Designated Driver Carpool the driver provides the vehicle and passengers pay a daily, weekly or monthly fare based on expenses such as fuel, maintenance and parking.
  • In the Alternating Carpool the driving is alternated on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Costs are incurred only during the period in which you are required to drive.
